Family: share trips with people you trust

5 min read

Family lets the people you trust see the trips you start: which bus, when you’re due. It isn’t a way to see where anyone is all day.

What Family is (and isn’t)

A family is up to six people who can share the trips they start in GoSEQ. While a trip is on, the family’s trip card shows the bus and the trip’s progress, and that’s erased soon after the trip ends. GoSEQ never shows where anyone is between trips, and Family keeps no history of where anyone has been. It’s free and needs a GoSEQ account.

Everyone chooses

Start or join

  1. Open the People tab, then Family → Start a family. Only someone 18 or over can start one.
  2. Tap Invite someone and send the code or link yourself. It changes every five minutes, so send it soon after you get it. GoSEQ never emails or texts anyone for you.
  3. To join, open the link, or tap Family → I have a code, choose your age group, and wait for a yes from the organiser or a guardian.

Someone without the app can follow a trip on the web from the invite link once they’re in.

What your family gets

Only what each person has switched on for you, and only while their trip is going: Live (open the trip and see the bus and when they’ll be there, never where their phone is), On the bus, Got there, and Running late (also used if the bus is cancelled). GoSEQ only sends one when it’s sure, so a quiet phone never means something is wrong, and it never means everything is fine. Every message is listed under What was sent for seven days.

Get home safe and Help

These are separate, optional helpers. Help sends your live location to the people you choose. Family only hears about it if you switched on Tell my family when I press Help. Get home safe checks in with you and tells your contacts if you don’t reply. GoSEQ is not an emergency service. If you’re in danger, call 000.

Location sharing is a separate choice

If, and only if, GoSEQ has turned it on for Family, you can choose Share my location for a set time (until you turn it off, for an hour, or until you get home) with the family members you pick. Nobody can switch it on for you.
