Brisbane’s 50c fares and go card
Every TransLink trip costs 50 cents, however far you go. Here’s how to make sure you pay once, not twice.
As of 26 October 2026. Fares and free-travel rules in 2026 have been changing quickly. Treat every dollar figure and date here as a guide, and check the official page linked at the bottom before you rely on it.
What’s 50c
TransLink’s 50 cent flat fare applies across all zones and modes on the TransLink network across Queensland. In South East Queensland that means Queensland Rail City trains, buses, Brisbane City ferries and Southern Moreton Bay Island ferries, trams and on-demand services. It also covers regional urban bus services. The Queensland Government announced in November 2024 that 50 cent fares are permanent.
How transfers work
You pay per journey, not per bus. Tap on and tap off with the same card or device, and trips join into one journey for one fare when:
- you make your next transfer within 1 hour;
- there are up to 3 transfers per journey;
- the final trip starts within 3.5 hours of your first tap on; and
- the total journey is shorter than 6 hours.
If you forget to tap, you may be charged a default fare.
go card, tap and go, or paper
The 50 cent fare applies to go card, credit or debit card and paper ticket payments. The South East Queensland network is cashless, but you can use cash to top up a go card at fare machines at bus and train stations or at go card retailers. On regional urban buses you can still pay cash on board.
Who rides free, and who doesn’t
- Children aged 4 and under travel free at all times, and children aged 5 to 14 can still travel free on weekends with their orange child go card.
- Concession discounts (50% off) don’t apply while the flat fare is on, and nor do off-peak and frequent-journey discounts.
- Senior Concession Card holders can still travel free on Brisbane City Council buses at off-peak times.
- Airtrain isn’t part of the 50c fare: it charges its own fares.
- Dedicated school buses are outside the 50c fare.
In GoSEQ
GoSEQ shows the fare on each trip, such as “50c with go card”, and a weekly spending total in Me.
